As I sat back and worked to not call Larry (and interrupt either quality work, a much needed nap, or baby feeding), I was surprised to realize that the email forums are no longer the number one BHQ Service. The first email list came online over 11 years ago, and was literally the start of what would one day become Balloon HQ. However, when forced to evaluate priorities over the past few weeks, it quickly became clear that restoration of the database was job one. With hundreds of Balloon Professionals utilizing BHQ business portfolios, the collection of over 10,000 photographs has become a mission-critical feature. That's quite impressive for a resource that was released just 2 years ago, in May of 2001.
As frustrating as the machine and software problems were this month, we're extremely delighted that our back-ups worked so well! The past six months have been very busy ones for the BHQ staff, as many long-term projects have been tackled. We've totally re-vamped our look, implemented CSS and cleaned up our old HTML, classified thousands of 'legacy' pictures in the photo database, served more photographs at T&Jam and IBAC than ever before, plus added a new family member and a new staff person. Now that we can move past the difficulties of this month (knock wood), we're excited to begin a new set of long-term projects. Who knows what will be the *best* part of Balloon HQ in the future?
That's only speaking technically, of course... BHQ would be nothing without the interactions of the worldwide balloon community. I recently heard a speaker say that because of the internet, each of us has 10 times more friends, 100 times the number of people we know, and 1,000s more people we can each call on for help. I am happy to acknowledge that that is certainly true for me. Thank you everyone for your patience over the past month.
