| Balloon Dog Sled by Jeff Brown |
Community Art Events come in many different forms. They can be large or small, involving one artist or hundreds. A prime example is Balloons Around The World (www.BalloonsAroundTheWorld.com) lead by Jeff Brown of Juno, Alaska - who very simply asks Balloon Artists to give something back to the community one day a year. Artists participating in BATW will volunteer a few hours a a children's hospital or library, decorate senior centers, or gather many artists together to make a large sculpture in a public location... all for the sake of Art and giving back to the community.
But these events are not limited to Balloon Artists. Painters, sculptors, musicians and poets have been providing Art to the public for years in parks, subways, any easily accessible location.
Community Art Events certainly serve the general public. They are an opportunity to expose people to an art form that they either might not be that familiar with or don't have the capability to experience. It can educate the public about the art form or increase acceptance into the form. Of course it is also a way to spread beauty into the world.
Community Art Events also benefit the Artist (or Artists). What a great way to advertise yourself and your abilities (and get some photos for your portfolio). They can also be an opportunity to try a new technique, design or effect (instead of trying things out in your living room then throwing them away, let the public enjoy it). They can be good experience, not only in creating the artwork but in the design, planning, and managing a group of artists or volunteers. Event planning experience is invaluable.

| BATW by Jeff Brown |
Jeff Brown is a name many Balloon Artists hear every year when one of the biggest community art events, "Balloons Around The World" takes place in October. Jeff, also known as Alaska's Commissioner of Mirth, is celebrating the world-wide event's tenth year! He also makes really funny greeting cards!
