BHQ now uses spam filtering services from Postini. Postini provides fantastic spam and virus filtering. Since BHQ started using this service, users and staff members have reported a drastic drop of daily spam messages from one staff member getting over 200 pieces of spam a day to just one or two spam messages per day.
All BHQ members and list subscribers will enjoy the benefits of Postini. Each BHQ Member receives a Postini account in partnership with BalloonHQ. All BHQ Members receive an email notice when their Postini account has been activated. Please pay attention to that note; do not delete it. You'll be asked to log in to the Postini site. You will then begin to receive a notice nightly of messages that have been quarantined. These are probably all spam, but might possibly be real mail. Watching the contents of your Postini account will be important for the first week or two. Fine tuning the filter settings is extremely easy through a web interface.
Postini filters all email that goes through Balloon HQ (through the use of your BHQ member account or directed to BHQ email forums). There's no way for BHQ to filter mail to any other domains.
If you want all of your mail filtered by Postini, you will need to set up a forward from your other address back to BHQ. Just be careful not to set up an infinite loop between BHQ and your ISP.
Here's an example.
If you normally read your mail at artist@somedomain.com and your BHQ address is name@balloonhq.com, you can create a new address that no one knows about, say nospam123@hotmail.com. Now you can (provided your ISP lets you) set up an automatic forward so that all mail from artist@somedomain.com gets forwarded to name@balloonhq.com. Then you can set your BHQ account to forward the latter to nospam123@hotmail.com. The thing you absolutely don't want to do is forward all of your mail from name@balloonhq.com to artist@somedomain.com and forward artist@somedomain.com to name@balloonhq.com.
