Balloons Around the World 2001
On Wednesday, October 3, 2001, nearly 1000 balloon artists in communities
all around the world formed smiles through the creation of balloon art.
Artists donate their time at this annual event to raise awareness of the
field of ballooning and just generally make people happy. Some
participants handed out balloon figures to anyone that asked. Others
created large displays. Some did things to raise money for favorite
charities, to draw crowds to a favorite public place (such as a library),
or simply for the enjoyment of it.
In the words of the organizer, Jeff Brown:
The simple act of giving is an incredible thing. It encourages others to
give and makes the world a better place, even if just for that one special
moment. The amazed look on faces young and old while watching the
transformation of a simple balloon to a dog or hat is a sight to see. If we
can inspire a day of happiness, perhaps we can inspire others to do the
same in their own way. We’re hoping to have smiles stretching from coast to
coast…and beyond!
